Drokpo means “Companion.”
In the Nubri Valley, a Drokpo is the one who walks beside you. Drokpo Treks and Adventures is a company from Samagaun, founded by people who grew up on these trails and who now walk them with you, not simply as guides but as companions.

I am Jigme Dorje, founder of Drokpo Treks and Adventures. I was born and raised in Samagaun, a small village in the Nubri Valley and I spent my childhood there until the age of fourteen and completed my primary education in the village.
When I think about those days, one memory always comes back to me. Whenever trekkers passed through our village, the children would run after them, laughing and shouting: “Shim-shim! Shimshim!” (Chocolate, please.)
The trails, the villages, the monasteries, the people, and those children running behind trekkers remained part of me. That is where Drokpo began.
The word Drokpo means “Companion.” We want to walk with you through the places that shaped us, to share the stories behind the trails, and the everyday life of the people who call these mountains home.
Because before we became guides, we were Drokpo. We were the children on the trail. We were the ones watching trekkers arrive from distant places.
Drokpo is our way of returning to those trails, not simply as guides, but as companions. We want to show you our village as we experienced it: its beauty and its hardships, its sacred places and ordinary moments, and the quiet details that may never appear in a travel brochure.
So yes, we will travel. But more than that, we hope to make your journey one of your best memories. Because when you walk with Drokpo, you are not simply visiting our mountains. You are walking with a companion who calls them home.
And with every step, we hope to give a little shim-shim back to the young Drokpos who are still waiting along the trail.
